Itinerary

DAY 1

Bled

With immense natural beauty, Bled, together with its surroundings, ranks among the most beautiful alpine resorts, renowned for its mild, healing climate and thermal lake water. Bled attracts businessmen, artists, athletes, explorers, sport enthusiasts, the old and the young, from all over the world, enchanting them to return to Bled again and again.

  • renting bikes and visit Vintgar Gorge which was open for public in 1893. Constructing a secured tourist trail through the wild gorge was a demanding and an extremly dangerous task. The roar of the fettered Radovna river echoes along the 1.600 m long gorge, full of small waterfalls, rapids and erosion potholes where the river briefly slows down its pace. Trails, narrow passages and bridges lead a visitor to the end of the gorge, witch is marked by the magnificiant, 16 m high waterfall Šum, the highest fluvial waterfall in Slovenia.
  • visitng Blejski Grad (Bled Castle), climb up to the Castle and enjoy the finest view of the lake with its island. Combine that with popular one and only Bleds cream cake.
  • visiting Bled island in the middle of a lake with the traditional Pletna boat and enjoy  the atmosphere.

In the afternoon we will continue towards Bohinjska Bistrica. Our guests will have two routs which vary by difficultness. Easier is going  by the main road and by the river Sava to Bohinj Lake and its mostly plane, second-harder one is going over plateau Pokljuka with large sprout forest. This one ascent from 500 to 1200 metres above the sea level.

Accommodation: near Bohinj Lake

DAY 2

Bohinj Lake

The largest natural lake in Slovenia with endless opportunities for outdoor activities. Is a part of Triglav national park – the oldest and biggest park in Slovenia and the point where Julian Alps begin.

Lake Bohinj is perfect for water activities all year round – from swimming, boat riding, wind surfing, kayaking or canoeing, fishing and diving in warmer months, to (sometimes) even ice skating in winter. Visitors can also take a wonderful tourist boat ride or simply go for a relaxing walk along the shore.

Few possibilities to spend our day:

  • bike tour on tarmac road from Bohinjska Bistrica to Soriška plateau - 800 m ascent in 13 kilometres,
  • hike on Vogar plateau – one and a half hour and 400 metres ascent. We can decide to continue walking towards Ko?e na Planini pri Jezeru (aprox. 3 hours and 850 metres ascent) to visit herdsman and try some of local specialities. On the way back there is an option to jump with paraglider in tandem (100 eur for a jump in tandem),
  • with cable car to Vogel hill – in nice weather beautiful view over Julian Alps and Bohinj Lake valley (20 eur extra payment),
  • with bikes to Waterfall Savica, 78 m high, which in heavy rain becomes the biggest waterfall in Slovenia with 600 m high. We can also visit Waterfall Voje in fairytell valley with gorgeously river beds Mostnica (15 eur extra payment)
  • rowing across Bohinj Lake and down Sava Bohinjka river with kayaks (30 eur extra payment).

Accommodation: near Bohinj Lake

DAY 3

Goriška Brda

In the extreme west of Slovenia, the beautiful, interesting and intoxicating Land of Brda extends to 72 km2. It extends over the state border from the emerald So?a river in the south-east to the Idrija River in the northwest. The excellent conditions and worker hands of the locals produce innumerable juicy fruits of cherries, peaches, apricots, olives, figs, chestnuts and, last but not least, the grapes that ripen in St. Martin's Day in a sweet red wine.

In the morning hours we left behind Gorenjska region. Train will take us towards Solkan (Nova Gorica). Railway goes through the longest tunnel in Slovenia which was build in a beginning of 20th century to connect Gorenjska (mountains) and Primorska (coast-sea) region, the north-west and south-west of Slovenia. In Solkan we stopped to look a  bridge with biggest stone bow in the world. Afterwords we sit on our bikes and leave for Goriška Brda – Slovenian Toscan. Hill by the hill, vineyard by the vineyard. From aproximately 5000 habitants, there are 150 winemakers. Some of them world known. Beside viticulture and fruit growing Goriška Brda offers many others landmarks such as Castle Dobrovo, outlook tower, natural bridge Kr?nik  and many more. Some of them we will lay eyes on during our biking. There will be some free time after lunch  to get ready for afternoon delight – visiting wine cellar with tasting wines.

Accommodation Goriška Brda.

DAY 4

Monastery Kostanjevica

Morning will use for slowly wakening, which will came in handy after many kilometres on bikes and tasting wines. You can even rest or decide to walk one of many good marked paths near by. Our journey will continue on bikes towards Monastery Kostanjevica.

The tombs of the last members of the French royal family of the Bourbons can be found in the crypt of the church of Kostanjevica. These nobles were exiled from France in the revolution of 1830. At first they found refuge in Edinburgh, Scotland; from there they went to Prague, in the current Czech Republic. Finally they came to Gorica where they were received as the guests of Count Coronini. When they died, they were buried here and for this reason Kostanjevica is known as the “Little St. Denis”.

At the end of our journey we can visit Casino in Nova Gorica …
